unexpected art

One of the best example I have seen of strange ephemeral art Naomi Filme’s chocolate glove , they have yet to be worn but the consequences of this are easily visible as they will melt the instant they are in contact with the skin also in this book were earrings and head bands made from ice these were just for photographic value like many piece only a select few will ever see the pises first hand as they melt so quickly when in contact with human skin.

To conclude

To conclude the world of ephemeral art is vast we could argue that all art is ephemeral but some more so then others from the extremely short lasting ice work to great extravagantly carved ancient building with though still standing are already beginning to show signs of erosion and corrosion ephemeral art can be made by anyone anywhere

My Work

In order to get my head around ephemeral art I produced my own short lived pebble tower inspired by Andy Goldsworthy in my garden it was a lovely sunny day and set up in my back garden I then constructed my first tower, then the second, the original plan was to constructed three towers then leave them over the weekend wile I fisited my family then come back to it and see the the damage however just as I had finished the second tower a gust of wind came along and toppled them over I had mixed feeling about this as I had intend my towers to last a lot longer but I felt it was a perfect example of just how shot lived this type of sculptchur could be .

one could argue that in fact all art ever made is in fact ephemeral in itself is all eventually wares away and fades and decay’s even with are utmost attempts to preserve and protect it ever the great Mona Lisa ever though it is currently protected my bullet proof glass at a constant temperature, humidity and uv exposure will eventually crumple away and mostir in the oil paints used to create it slowly evaporates away.

The snowman and the sand castle

Two ephemeral acts that we have all participated in at some point in our life’s and something that has been the subject of just about every Christmas film ever made is the humble snow man the act of making a snow man is an annual (if were lucky) and an event that most of us look forward to each year no only dose it get you outside in the fresh air but it also bounds bonds within family’s this simple creation can last for days or weeks and everyone is always a little sad what the inevitable happens .
The same can be said for the summer time, every time a go to the beach I cant help but make a sand castle, they very rarely work perfectly and always crumple but give the same overwhelming sense of joy each time as putting the carrot on the snowman.

Andy Goldwrothy

One of the most famous artist who work with ephemeral materials is Andy Goldsworthy a landscape artist living and working in Scotland he works in a great range of mediums, he constructs the fast majority of his work by simply walking out into the forests around his home and using a technique called bricolage meaning “made from anything close to hand” his work is always organic using natural materials such as stone twigs leaves ice sand pebbles wool sticks to create beautiful flowing natural forms, his most well known work is probably the “eggs” witch he constructs stone using no mower, these are made all over the place most lasting years but some he constructs quickly on the shoreline witch the intention of theme being washed apart by the incoming tides.
Almost all of his work is ephemeral in terms of our life times however some such as his “wall” a giant dry stone wall that snakes in and out of trees mimicking a river this construction could potentially stand for hundreds of years.
